Vincent & Miriam's E-Session

Last weekend was really a hectic one..but I'm not complaining. Being a freelance wedding & portrait photographer gets me meeting up with various interesting faces. I had 2 outdoor shoots just last weekend and it was good enough to make me snore so much at night...yeah, my wife told me. An E-Session & a portrait session.

Alright, this post is about Vincent & Miriam. Vincent is originally from Kuching but he's currently based in Johor attach with an oil & gas company. Few months back, sometime after church, Miriam approached me about doing an engagement session for them. Of course I was honored and thrilled. I was actually looking forward to meeting the guy whom we've only been hearing about. The love story begins way back in year 2000, while in Uni days, Vincent got 'hooked' on Miriam's seducing eyes one day & made the move. I don't know what he did but they are one bubbly couple from my 'viewfinder'. Though Vincent is kinda quiet, besides his handsome look of course, I bet his gentle words were among the things that swept Miriam of her feet. More of a peaceful guy I can say. During our meet-up, he was as cool as his looks. Hey Vince, I'm yet to hear you sing ah!

Their E-session was planned at the Miri City Fan & Taman Selera but after her make-up session before-hand, we stopped by Mr Ho's for some drinks coz it was still hot outside. Our make-up artist was very professionally quick. While at Mr Ho's, we did some shots to warm em up. My assistants this time were Grace (Miriam's cousin) & Jenn. Grace was their 'Caddy' to carry their stuffs around while Jenn was on the reflector. Since natural light was good, the shots at City Fan was a breeze but after the sun sets at Taman Selera, then only the reflector was in full use. To read on my method is using the reflector, click HERE

Below are my favs from their sets. I 'played' with some creative effects again so enjoy em. To Vince & Yerm, I enjoyed every moment photographing you both, plus getting you guys get wet! (on the beach ah..) Anyway, I look forward to photographing you guys again...for the 'bigger picture' this time.

So, I got them to play.. :

Famous Buildings in Kuala Lumpur

Okay, my portraiture sessions has complete. Time to roam the city and take more photographs. While sitting in the car, it was great opportunity to practice my eye in capturing subjects while on the move. These are some shots of well known architectures around the city. The funny thing was, my left lens (sunglass) dropped somewhere in my backpack and I couldn't reach it due to space constrain in the car since the backpack was at my feet. Though I looked hilariously weird, I discovered the situation came in handy when I was 'shooting' stuff outside. Left eye on the 'viewfinder' (Nikon D300), while my right eye having the shades required. Yeah they laughed at me but...in the end, I'm the one with all the shots OKay!

Abidin & Merlinda's Portraiture Session

Tis been quite a while since I've meet up with this couple. They're our close brother & sister from Miri, now 'migrated' to KL. Well, Merlinda is from Papar to be exact. After many months, we caught up again with them over dinner with Nick & Evie at California Pizza Kitchen (hope I spelled that right) in KLCC. Soon after dinner, we headed back to Nick's for Jenn's surprise birthday which end-up not so much of a surprise for her. Anyway, we had a swell time with the couple. Thanks for your time guys. Miri is kinda quiet without you 2. "Dolok madah mok bukak kampong kat sitok. Tok, lalu branch out pegi KL pulang jadinya".

Bah.. "Tok nya portrait korang nok sik seberapa". Simpan bait-bait ah. Your sets will arrive you soon too. Nang sik lepas peluang untuk berposing bah kan!

In Kelabit: "Petulu tauh beruh kanid. Do'o mulak berkat Tuhan ngan meduah. Plaba do'o pian kediwah nah petulu ngan meduah. Kirim tabik ngan abi-abi kanid kinanak tauh nuk ngi nange".

Nick & Evie's Portraiture Session

Over a short visit to KL two weeks back, Jenn, Janet & I were 'hospitalized' (we put-up) at Nick & Evie's place. We were there to check out our newly completed condo located in Kuchai Lama. Nick & Evie were kind enough to drive us around. At the same time, Nick & Evie had their portrait session with me, with their living room wall as the background. Clear wall is good for simple portraits. Nick & Evie, your sets will arrive you soon. Wait em up yah!

We love your place...and also your CATS! Thanks for arranging the birthday cake for Jenn too. Despite the noise she made that nite, she actually love everything you guys did. To Evie, happy birthday again. The Lord bless you both & guide you. Look forward to seeing you guys again...when we're back in KL.

Jennifer's Switzerland Holiday

Thanks to Digi Malaysia, Jennifer was on a trip to Switzerland invited by friends from KK last August. Browsing at her collections after the trip, these selected shots have been in my folder for quite a while. Time to let em out!

Being her, she can carry her Canon Ixus point & shoot camera with her everywhere she goes but you don't expect her to be using it. I've got to admit, I'm the 'shutterbug' between us. Only one day before the trip, I gave her a 'crash course' in using the Nikon D40X with kit lens 18-55mm attached. She even slept halfway when I came to the technical part like setting the shutter speed & aperture. Can you believe that? Anyway, reading & listening to experiences of those who've been there, I didn't want her to shoot using just a point & shoot camera since Switzerland is well known for its beautiful sceneries. Therefore I urged her to bring along the D40X since I was not invited to come along... *Sob..*sob.. But then again, if I was invited to come along, you wouldn't be seeing her '1 Hour D40X Photography Course' results in this post now, would you?!

Although I'm frequently shooting with the Nikon D300 now, I must say the D40X has never fail to deliver the best colors since I first got it & of course, I still love this compact little DSLR camera! D40X is no longer in production but for interested beginners, I recommend the Nikon D60. If you can chip-in a bit more extra cash, go for Nikon D80. You will notice a different watermarking on these photos. That's because, they were shot by Jenn (obviously) but I did the minor touch ups. Lets just say for now, J.C (Jennifer Chang) Photography is picking up... So...Enjoy......

Labuan Airport

While waiting for my flight from Labuan to KK last Monday, I tried to do some architectural photography, if thats what you call it. The roof and the flooring moved me to try a few shots. No flash, just slow shutter all the way...

Ryan & Judith's Wedding

I'm back and gotta tell you it has been one hectic weekend. Nevertheless, it was an interesting one. Jenn & I were back in KK for Ryan & Judith's wedding. We even met some familiar faces from Florencius & Sheena's wedding at the dinner reception. Here are some details I've captured. It was indeed a thrill to finally meet and also shooting alongside Mr Syahrin Aziz (Photoshop Guru). I shot without flash most of the time coz my speedlight 'decided to go on a break'. All I had was 'available light'. Even though so, I think it went well. Thanks Syahrin for the tips..

To Ryan & Judith, we had a great time! I even did the 'Poco-Poco' for the 1st time..How COOL is that? Look forward to seeing you guys again! Again, CONGRATULATION!
